Surgery aftercare
Recovery is usually smooth when these instructions are followed. Read through them before pickup so you know what's normal and what needs a call.
Your pet has been under general anesthesia. Expect drowsiness and wobbly coordination for up to 24 hours, so keep them away from stairs and anything they could fall from.
Feed a small meal that evening, roughly a quarter to half of a normal portion, and limit water. Return to normal feeding the next day.
Some pets, especially cats, will not eat for 24 to 48 hours. Do not force food. If vomiting happens the night of surgery, remove all food and water.
