Before you arrive

Surgery day instructions

A little preparation keeps drop-off quick and your pet's anesthesia as safe as possible. Call us at 801-262-6414 if anything here doesn't fit your situation.

Step 1

The night before

  • Pick up food after midnight — no breakfast the morning of surgery.
  • Leave water down; your pet may drink normally.
  • Bathe your pet if needed. Baths are not allowed for 10 days afterward.
  • Keep cats indoors overnight so they are easy to find in the morning.
Step 2

The morning of

  • Arrive during your assigned drop-off window; we admit patients starting at 7:00 am.
  • Dogs come in on a secure leash and collar. Cats come in a hard-sided carrier.
  • Community cats must arrive in a covered live trap, never a carrier.
  • Bring a list of any current medications or supplements, including CBD.
Step 3

At check-in

  • Tell us about heart murmurs, seizures, recent injuries, or prior surgeries.
  • Confirm any add-ons: bloodwork, IV fluids, vaccines, microchip, e-collar.
  • Give consent for umbilical hernia repair and baby teeth removal if found.
  • Leave a phone number where you can be reached all day.
Step 4

Pickup

  • Most patients go home the same afternoon before we close at 6:00 pm.
  • Payment is due at discharge; we do not bill.
  • We'll walk you through aftercare and any medications going home.
  • Plan a quiet, warm space for your pet before you get there.

Call us before surgery if

  • Your pet ate breakfast by accident.
  • Your dog is showing signs of heat and is over 80 lbs or a Husky.
  • Your pet is coughing, vomiting, or has had diarrhea in the last 24 hours.
  • Your pet has been diagnosed with a heart murmur or has had a seizure.

Once your pet is home, follow the aftercare instructions closely — rechecks are free when they're followed.
