Canine neuter
Castration removes both testicles under general anesthesia. It eliminates testicular cancer risk, reduces roaming and marking, and helps prevent prostate problems later in life.
Who qualifies
Dogs must be at least 12 weeks old and weigh at least 3 pounds. We cannot perform surgery on dogs with a history of heart murmur or seizures.
Cryptorchid patients
If one or both testicles have not descended, the surgery takes longer and may require an abdominal approach. Expect $15 to $150 extra per retained testicle, which may include antibiotics and additional pain medication for sedation.
What we recommend
- Pre-anesthetic bloodwork before anesthesia.
- An IV catheter with fluids, required for some patients.
- An e-collar if your dog is likely to lick the incision.
Breed notes
Doberman Pinschers
Doberman neuters require a $75 coagulation panel before surgery.
Great Danes
We require a $75 coagulation panel and a signed high-risk waiver. We do not offer gastropexy, but we can still neuter your Great Dane without it.
Pugs and French Bulldogs
Brachycephalic breeds carry a higher anesthetic risk. We may ask for a high-risk waiver and we require an IV catheter with fluids for an additional $45.
