Feline spay
A flat-rate spay for owned cats, performed under general anesthesia with pain control given in the clinic and same-day discharge.
Who qualifies
Cats must be at least 12 weeks old and weigh at least 3 pounds. We cannot spay cats with a history of heart murmur or seizures.
What we recommend
- Pre-anesthetic bloodwork before anesthesia.
- An IV catheter with fluids, which is required for some cats.
- An e-collar or a loose t-shirt if she is likely to lick the incision.
We will also ask permission to repair an umbilical hernia if we find one while she is under anesthesia.
Pain medication
Your cat receives a single dose of meloxicam in the clinic. Repeat NSAID dosing has no established safe protocol in cats, so nothing goes home. If you think she is uncomfortable after surgery, call us rather than giving anything on your own.
In heat or pregnant
Both add cost. Female cats are induced ovulators and cycle in and out of heat until spayed, so we generally do not recommend rescheduling for heat alone. The doctor may decline surgery if a pregnancy is far along.
Brachycephalic breeds
Persians, Scottish Folds, and similar flat-faced breeds carry a higher anesthetic risk. We can operate here with a high-risk waiver and a required IV catheter with fluids for an additional $45.
After surgery
Keep her indoors for 10 to 14 days at a comfortable 70 to 75 degrees, limit food that first night, and keep the incision dry and untouched. Full instructions are on the aftercare page. Rechecks are free when instructions are followed.
